A special treatment for chronic back pain that is done by retaining medicated oil in the affected area.
The oldest practice to heal is Ayurveda. It is an art and science to live appropriately and helping achieving longevity. According to the principle of Ayurveda, there are two different treatments: one is purificatory, while the other is palliative.
In achieving the balanced state of consciousness, mind and body, Ayurveda prescribes Panchakarma or the purificatory therapy to cleanse the body toxins. Kati vasti is a part of pre-operative procedure that comes before Panchakarma. This is a very effective treatment for lower backache.
Kati is the waist area of the body. Vasti is the holding of warm ayurvedic oils on the affected areas. Kati Vasti involves the retaining of the warm thick medicated oil on the lower back and the other parts of the spine area for a specific period of time.
The patient puts his or her face down on the bed when the medicated oil is applied locally around the lumbo-sacral region. After this, there is building of a reservoir made of black gram dough around the area of lumbo-sacral. Then slowly 200-300 ml of lukewarm medicinal oil is slowly poured into it that should ensure that the oil is leak proof.
The maintenance should be ensured of the oilís temperature along with adding more oil continuously and reheating. The oil is applied for 30 to 40 minutes.
After the completion of the treatment, there can be gentle massaging of the affected area followed by steaming for about quarter of an hour for better absorption of the medicine. The duration of this course is 5 to 7 days as per requirement of the Ayurveda practitioner.
